In a heartwarming act of compassion and leadership, the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has sponsored a successful eye surgery for 14-year-old Ayomide Aiyedatiwa, who had been battling cataracts for several years.
The young boy’s condition came to light during a recent visit to the Ondo State Children’s Home in Akure by the Special Adviser on Women Affairs, Dr. Seun Bosede Osamaye. Moved by Ayomide’s story and his urgent need for medical attention, Dr. Osamaye promptly brought the case to the attention of Governor Aiyedatiwa.
Ayomide, who was rescued from the streets of Akure during the tenure of former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, was diagnosed with cataracts in March 2025. Upon learning of his situation, the current administration wasted no time in ensuring he received the necessary medical care.
Originally referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, the surgery was eventually carried out at the Millennium Eye Centre, University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital Complex—a historic first for this kind of medical intervention in the state.
Speaking on the milestone, Dr. Osamaye emphasized the administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of every child in Ondo State. She praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for his swift response and dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable children.
She also extended heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated caregivers, Mrs. Aduloju, Nurse Aarinola Adamolekun and the medical team who carried out the surgery on April 23, 2025. Their combined efforts ensured that Ayomide’s sight was not only restored but his future also given a renewed sense of hope.
Dr. Osamaye assured residents that the Aiyedatiwa-led administration would continue to prioritize healthcare and the well-being of all citizens, especially the most vulnerable. “This is a government that cares deeply,” she said. “Ayomide’s story is a testament to that commitment.”
