LAUTECH Lecturer Charges Female Victims of Violence to Voice Out for Justice
A clinical psychologist, at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, Dr Olufisayo Adebimpe has stressed the need for women to voice out so as to penalise offenders and make them serve as deterrent to other perpetrators.
The physician made the call on the ocassion of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Dr Adebimpe explained that victim often keep the trauma to themselves due to shameful feeling and feel withdrawn from the society.
The Clinical psychologist said sexual assault is a growing phenomenon not only in Nigeria but also in most African countries saying females should speak out so as to let perpetrators face the full wrath of the law.
Dr Adebimpe also advised government to ensure adequate implementation of legislation against perpetrators of sexual violence and other forms violence
Narrating her experience to Radio Nigeria a victim of sexual assault and domestic violence Adebola Enioluwa said the trauma had refused to leave her and emphasized the need for Government to step up its efforts in creating a safe and secured society for women as a lot of women experience different forms of violence in their day to day lives.
