Pensioners FM 5th Anniversary: Ibadan Anticipates Specialised Broadcast – Yemi Farounbi
A Veteran Broadcaster and Former Nigerian Ambassador to Philippines, Dr. Yemi Farounbi has challenged the over fifty-one radio stations in Ibadan to halt the trend of duplicating contents and delve into specialised broadcast which the audience yearns for.
Farounbi, explained that Ibadan, the largest city in west Africa, was a veritable haven for multi broadcast industries, hence the need for the creation of specialised contents to satisfy the eagering listeners in their strata.
Delivering a Lecture entitled “Radio Broadcasting: Numbers Without Varieties: Need for Specialise Contents”, to mark the 5th Anniversary of Pensioners FM, Onireke, Ibadan, Oyo State, Farounbi, Submitted that Radio Stations in Ibadan must carve a niche for themselves by creating Contents different from those of others, thereby gaining more interested listeners and as well drive change.
He urged Broadcast Stations to explore the tools of Social Media to add value to themselves through community engagement Programmes and contents.
Conduct audience research, feedbacks, understand specialised market before delving into it. Showcase a variety of voices, perspectives, background and thoughts. Create alternative platform such as Podcast, online streaming. Embrace social media integration to drive specialised contents and ideas”

Corroborating, Chairman, Board of Directors, Pensioners FM, Ibadan, Chief Adebisi Adesola advised Media Professionals to be more equipped with information, education and contents that would be of interest to the listeners without losing focus.
In a remark, Deputy Director News and Current Affairs, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ibadan, Mr. Adewumi Faniran cautioned against corporate arrogance, calling for more collaborative efforts amongst the Media in performing their roles as the Watchdog of the Society.
On his part, the Executive Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Oyo State, Dr. Olusegun Abatan affirmed that, the Pensioners FM would continue to ensure its mandate of promoting the interest of all the Senior Citizens in the State without forgetting the general public.
The General Manager, Pensioners FM, Dr. Babatunde Tiamiyu appreciated the brain behind the establishment of the Station and the support he has so far recieved from the Board, Management and Staff since he assumed office and from the inception.
