Anti Piracy: NCC Raids Schools in Ibadan, Seizes Pirated Books
The Nigerian Copyright commission, NCC, has raided some schools in Ibadan metropolis, and seized pirated books found on their shelves
The NCC war against piracy team, led by the State Coordinator, Ibadan office, Mrs Oluropo Oke visited different schools namely, Broad minds model school, Idi ishin, Cedarlet Elementary school , Araromi Gbekuba, All Saints schools, Idi ishin, Caroline schools , Sunshine Schools, Okebola and Maverick schools, Sango El where books alleged to be pirated were seized in some schools, others complied with anti piracy law.
Among the team members were members of the Nigerian publishers Association, officers from the Nigerian security and civil defence corps, NSCDC, and members of the NCC.
The State Coordinator, NCC, Ibadan office, Mrs Oluropo Oke, while inspecting schools on the anti piracy war of the commission, noted that the inspection exercise was carried out because the commission discovered that some schools were fuelling the pirates activities 
The NCC had noticed disturbing trends in the distribution of pirated books through schools and outlets and traditional bookstores”
Mrs Oke called on heads of schools to always purchase from legitimate book stores considering their qualities.
She called on parents and guardians to render adequate support towards their children’s education to achieve a qualitative and sound education that will provide a sound and brilliant mind in the future.
Mrs Oke, noted that one of the ways to tackle challenges facing the Nigerian children in their academics is by tackling book piracy .
The Secretary Nigerian Publishers Association, NPA, Mr Emmanuel Abimbola lamented the losses they had incured due to the activities of pirates, noting that what book authors, writers and publishers get from their works do not commensurate with the cost of the production,thereby making such author, writer, publisher to run at a loss.
Mr Abimbola who noted with dismay that piracy kills creativity, said the government in their fight against piracy needed to put in more efforts in fighting the menace totally
An educationist who teaches at Sunshine schools, one of the schools visited by the war against piracy team, Mr Bankole Alake commended the government through the NCC for the war against pirates and implored school owners to desist from boosting the economy of the pirates, by patronising pirated books .
