LG Autonomy: Oyo LG Chairmen Dump ALGON, Float New Association
The 33 elected local government chairmen in Oyo state have declared their intention to renounce their membership from Association of Local Governments of Nigeria ALGON to support state governor’s opposition to supreme court judgement on financial autonomy for local government.
The chairmen who unanimously declared their support to governor Seyi Makinde also announced their resolve to establish a new association to continue serving the people of the state at the grassroots.
According to a communique signed by all the 33 Local Government chairmen, after a closed door meeting, the chairmen noted that the decision to operate under a new association was arrived at as a result of the need to protect and provide for the people in their various local government areas.
They explained that the proposed association of the local government executive chairmen will be registered under the relevant Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
