Unlocking The Potentials of Secret Prayers in Ministry

Matthew 6:5-6 KJV – [5 ]And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. [6] But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Deuteronomy 29:29 KJV: The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Psalm 91:1 KJV – “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

As Ministers of God, its our duty to pray always but there’s a kind of prayer that we need to do secretly because of the nature of our assignment. Nothing tangible can be achieved for God without prayers. Whatever occupies our time apart from prayer is our No 1 enemy. Hence, prayer and Meditation in the word of God must be our No 1 Priority

WHY DO We HAVE TO OBSERVE SECRET PRAYERS

1. Jesus commanded it and he practiced it- Mt 6:5-6 He sets an example for us to follow. There’s blessing in obedience

2. Secret prayers gives birth to great destinies.

3. Secret “prayers disallows distractions. Mt 6:6 “Shut thy door” Against disturbances and unwanted guests

4. Secret Prayers shows your level of seriousness. It means you mean business with God. If it’s the noise of the congregation that inspires you, then you have no roots with God. Deep calleth unto the deep Ps 42:7 –“Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.” Secret prayers is the place of deepest communion and secrets with God.

5. In the place of secret prayers, you can gather private anointing, grace, revelations, secrets, wisdom and divine ideas, psalms

25v14- “The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.”

6. You can break every barrier, turn around situations, touch the hearts of men, kings and those in authority in the place of secret prayers.

7. Your rights, blessings, mandate and inheritance are reclaimed in the place of secret prayers. Enemies are under pressure and terrorised to release hijacked blessings.

8. Great men and women of God are people of secret prayers. In the day or night. In the office or anywhere. It has no schedule. That’s when angels take instructions most

9. Much secret prayers, short public prayers, – Tremendous result let it be your strategy – Ps 23; I Sam 17

10. There can not be success/breakthrough in church planting evangelism, revival and church growth without secret prayers

11. Secret prayer is an opportunity to pour out our heart unreservedly our needs, our fears, anything and everything

12. The place secret prayers is- the control room :

(a ) Controlling events, Decisions, destines and divine exchange

(b) To receive blueprints, deep mysteries and discover new things

(c) Solidifying your relationship with God / intimacy with God

(d) To disgrace and chase away your enemies

13. God rewards publicly every prayer in the secret place – Mt 6:6 – “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” It is in a place of secret prayer where we enforce “LET THY WILL BE DONE OH LORD”

HOW TO OBSERVE SECRET PRAYERS

1. Personally but secretly (alone) anywhere but secretly

2. In agreement with 2 or 3 people but secretly

3. Corporate prayer but secretly ( high level intercessory team)

4. Consultation but secretly (with your father/mother in the lord)

SOME EXAMPLES

1. Daniel : Dan.2:17-20 KJV

[17]Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions: [18] That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. [19] Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. [20] Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:

2. Jacob : Genesis 32:22-28 KJV[22]And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two womenservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok. [23] And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he had. [24] And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. [25] And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. [26] And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. [27] And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. [28] And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

4. Early Church : Acts 17:25 KJV- “Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;”

Upper room experience : Acts 1:12-14

[12]Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey. [13] And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. [14] These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

CONCLUSION

Much success, achievement and testimonies will be realized if we don’t expose important information to the adversary as we pray aloud publicly. A person born of the spirit is like wind, you don’t need to know where it is coming from or where it is going. John 3:8 KJV “The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.”
