Oluwo Warns Manufacturers Against Price Hike
The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has urged local manufacturers not to increase prices of commodities arbitrarily so as not to sabotage the economy.
Oluwo berated the recent hike in price of cement noting that every material used in production were locally sourced saying it does not require foreign exchange.
Oba Akanbi, who spoke at the commissioning of the ultra-modern hall and 60th anniversary of Iwo Grammar school, Osun State organised by the ex-students of the school, said Nigeria would overcome its current hardship in the shortest period of time
“Nigeria is going through reborn and during labour, the mother will go through hardship and when she give birth, Nigeria will laugh last and will be great again because this time will pass.”
But I must advise the local manufacturers and producers in Nigeria, this country has been good to them by banning importation, they should try as much as possible to grab this opportunity and not use it as a way to suffer our people. We can as well open our borders for importation but the government want to help local manufacturers.
“So I want to urge them to give back to the people by bringing down prices, I don’t see why the price of cement will go up, it is just like sand, rock, limestone… everything used in producing cement is from this country, this is not about foreign exchange, why will cement be N10,000.
“Local manufacturer must desist from trying to sabotage this government, they should work with this present administration to succeed. We can see that the current government is trying and we know that we have capable hands in his cabinet.”
