Arakale Traffic: Ondo Govt Restricts Truck Loading Hours, Bans U-Turns at Ori Eguru Junction

The Ondo State government has introduced new traffic regulations along the Arakale axis of Akure, designed to reduce avoidable traffic congestion, improve road safety, and ensure the smooth and orderly movement of vehicles along the corridor.

The Special Adviser On Transport
Hon. Olumuyiwa Ogunyemi, in a statement, said the decision followed an assessment of traffic challenges along this route.

Hon Ogunyemi, in the statement, said: “The Ministry has introduced specific directives governing U-turns and the loading and offloading of goods by trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles.

“All motorists, commercial drivers, truck operators, transport unions, business owners, and other road users are hereby notified of the following directives and are required to comply accordingly.

“Effective immediately, vehicles travelling from the Isikan axis towards Arakale are prohibited from making U-turns at Ori Eguru Junction. All affected motorists are directed to proceed to Aromed Junction to make their U-turns.

“This measure is intended to minimise conflicting vehicle movements, prevent unnecessary traffic obstruction, and improve traffic flow along the Arakale corridor. Motorists are therefore advised to take note of this directive and desist from making U-turns at Ori Eguru Junction.

“To minimise traffic disruption and promote efficient road use, the Ministry has introduced designated time windows for the loading and offloading of goods by trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles along the Arakale axis.

“The approved periods are as follows: Morning: 6:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. Evening and overnight: 5:00 p.m. until dawn. All truck operators, distributors, shop owners, business owners, and other stakeholders operating along the Arakale axis are required to observe these designated periods strictly.

“Loading and offloading activities outside the approved time windows are prohibited under this directive.
Affected businesses and operators are advised to plan their logistics and commercial activities accordingly to avoid traffic disruption and potential enforcement action for non-compliance.

“As part of efforts to ensure effective implementation of the new traffic regulations, State Traffic Control (STC) has been deployed along the Arakale route. Their responsibilities include traffic control, monitoring compliance with the new directives, and facilitating the orderly movement of vehicles.

“All motorists and other road users are expected to cooperate with the deployed officers, obey their lawful instructions, and comply with the traffic-control measures put in place. The deployment is intended to strengthen enforcement, discourage traffic violations, and ensure the effective implementation of the new regulations.”

Ogunyemi reiterated that the measures constituted newly introduced traffic directives intended to protect road users, reduce congestion, and improve traffic management along the Arakale axis.

He urged stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the regulations and comply fully, saying
violations of these directives would attract appropriate enforcement action and penalties in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Ogunyemi said the Ministry will not condone deliberate disregard for lawful traffic-control measures designed to promote public safety and improve the transportation system.

He said that the government’s
regulations underscore the commitment to improving road safety, reducing avoidable traffic congestion, and strengthening traffic management across the state.

Ogunyemi called on motorists, commercial drivers, transport unions, truck operators, business owners, and residents to support the successful implementation of these measures in the collective interest of the public.
