The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) says it regrets agreeing to the N70,000 minimum wage for workers, stating that at the time the agreement was reached, it was not aware that the price of petrol would rise above N800 per litre.
The union accused the Federal Government of benefiting from increased revenue resulting from the rise in crude oil prices, while workers and other Nigerians continue to struggle with higher transportation costs, rising food prices, and the depreciation of the naira.
The President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, made this known during an interview with labour correspondents at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, where the 2026 National Summit on Post-Retirement Life Planning was held.
