The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has felicitated Muslims across the state and beyond on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Maulud, commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Mr Akeem Abas, and the Secretary, Temidayo Adu, the Council described the occasion as an opportunity for Muslims to reflect on the exemplary life, teachings and virtues of the Holy Prophet, particularly his commitment to peace, compassion, justice, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
The Council urged Muslims to use the occasion to renew their commitment to the values of love, sacrifice, humility and service to humanity, noting that the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) remain relevant to the challenges confronting society.
According to the Council, Nigeria needs greater understanding and cooperation among people of different faiths and backgrounds to overcome its socio-economic and security challenges.
It, therefore, called on religious and community leaders to continue to promote dialogue, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
The Oyo NUJ Council also urged Nigerians to support efforts aimed at strengthening peace, unity and development in the country, while calling on journalists to continue to uphold professionalism, accuracy, fairness and responsibility in their reportage, especially on issues capable of affecting religious and communal harmony.
The Council wished Muslims a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Maulud celebration, praying that the occasion would bring blessings, peace and prosperity to Muslim faithful, Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.
