Oyo State government has taken delivery of two DA42MN-G surveillance aircraft to strengthen security operations, improve aerial monitoring and enhance rapid response to criminal activities across the state.
Receiving the aircraft at the Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde said the acquisition was part of the state’s long-term security strategy and not a reaction to the recent kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area.
Governor Makinde explained that the aircraft would enable security agencies to monitor large areas of the state more effectively within a short time and complement security personnel on the ground with aerial surveillance.
He disclosed that the aircraft would be deployed immediately and noted that Nigerian Air Force pilots flew them into the state under a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, between the Oyo State Government and the Nigerian Air Force for their operation.
Governor Makinde assured residents that his administration would continue to prioritise their safety and welfare, stressing that a secure environment remained critical to sustainable development.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing measures that would protect lives and property across the state.
The Oyo State Government announced the purchase of the surveillance aircraft in July 2025. The acquisition cost the state government ₦7.7 billion.
