A Kaduna resident, Lawal Hamisu, has asked a Sharia Court sitting in Magajin Gari to compel his 27-year-old daughter, Fatima, to get married.
Hamisu, a father of 11, made the request on Tuesday through his lawyer, H.B. Debo, arguing that his daughter had completed her Higher National Diploma but had yet to settle down despite attracting several admirers.
He urged the court to direct her to present a suitable suitor so that the marriage could be conducted, alleging that her mother had turned the children against him.
Responding, Fatima told the court that she was not in any serious relationship, insisting that although she had admirers, none had proposed marriage to her.
Presiding Judge, Malam Yakubu Abdullahi, described the matter as delicate because it involved a father and his daughter.
The judge said he would hold separate discussions with both parties to better understand the issues before offering further guidance.
He subsequently adjourned the case until August 3, 2026, for a ruling.
