……Inaugurates PHC Staff Quarters……
Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has inaugurated revitalized Health Facilities with Solar Powered Boreholes. Medical Equipment and Newly Constructed two Semi- detached Staff Quarters for the Ondo state Primary Health Care Development Agency.
The facilities situated across the state were part of the projects commissioned in commemoration of his first year in office.
Speaking at the inauguration of one of the projects in Okitipupa, Okitipupa local government area of the state, the governor clarified that the adoption of tricycle ambulance by Ondo State government is a strategy to improve access to emergency healthcare services in rural and hard-to-reach communities in line with global best practices. 
Governor Aiyedatiwa hinted that the tricycle ambulances unveiled for the health sector in Ondo state were designed specifically to enable residents to enjoy easy and prompt access to emergency care in rural communities, difficult terrains, riverine areas, and villages with narrow roads, thereby strengthening Primary Health Care System and by extension the health and wellbeing of the people of Ondo State.
Aiyedatiwa who was represented by the Commissioner for health, Dr Banji Ajaka explained that the use of Tricycle Ambulance, fitted with live saving equipment is recognised by the World Bank for its global role as an effective and efficient means of transportation in rural areas, especially in referring pregnant women and children to Secondary or Tertiary health facilities in emergency situations.
He however said that the tricycle ambulances were not in anyway a replacement for standard ambulances but a a strategic addition to enhance service delivery in primary health care system in Ondo state.
“The adoption of this strategy by the Ondo State Governments is a well thought out approach to complement the well revitalized Health Centres, newly built Staff Quarters and lives savings equipment and other state of the art facilities in addition to the new categories of health workers being injected into the health system of Ondo state especially at the primary health care system.” Aiyedatiwa noted
In a remark, the Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Francis Adegoke Akanbiemu also emphasised that the use of Tricycle Ambulance plays a critical role in reducing mortality and morbidity in rural communities as it responds swiftly to emergency situations.
He said “Tricycle Ambulance fitted with live saving equipment is germane in addressing the health needs of the large majority of the citizens (70%) of Ondo State who patronizes the Primary Health Care Centres across the state.
Dr Akanbiemu said about 26 states of the Federation, including Ondo have adopted the use of Tricycle ambulance in accordance with global best practices, applauding Governor Aiyedatiwa’s huge commitment to the health sector, especially in the area of Primary healthCare.
“Data has shown that many states in Nigeria are now prioritizing the use of Tricycle Ambulances due to its proven effectiveness and efficiencies in the movement of patients referred from the Primary Health Care Centres to higher levels of care and has been recognized by both the World Health Organization and the World Bank as a lives saving strategies in the referral of patients in emergency situations” Akanbiemu said.
The Permanent Secretary hinted that government had purchased tricycle ambulances for the 102 basic health centres across the state saying they would be distributed in batches.
He thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for implementing lofty plans for the primary health sub sector particularly recruitment of more personnel and prompt release of funds for various projects promised that the Agency would continue prioritise the health of Ondo residents especially at the grassroots.
Dr Akanbiemu charged workers in the Ondo state primary health care development agency to continue to display high level of professionalism and justify the government’s huge financial commitment in the health sector.
