Some selected Widows in Ondo State have received food items, cash support and free health insurance coverage as the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ondo State chapter, partnered with the Ayodele Orogun Empowerment Project (AOEP) to support vulnerable women to celebrate the festive season.
The intervention, tagged Orange Widows Support Initiative 2026, was held at the Adegbemile Press centre Akure
According to the organiser the gesture was to ease economic hardship on the widows and support their welfare across the state.
Beneficiaries were presented with food packs and cash assistance to help cushion the effects of rising living costs.
Speaking at the event, The CEO of Ayodele Orogun Foundation, Mrs Ayodele Orogun described the initiative as part of sustained efforts to restore dignity, provide relief and ensure social protection for widows, particularly those facing economic and social challenges.
In a major boost to the programme, the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission also enrolled the widows free of charge, granting them access to essential healthcare services.
The Representative of the Ondo state Contributory Health Commission Mr Gbenga Olubodun noted that health insurance coverage would help reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses and improve the overall wellbeing of beneficiaries.
Earlier, The NAWOJ State Chairperson, Mrs Tola Gbadamosi commended partners for their commitment to women-focused interventions, stressing that collaborative efforts remain critical to reaching more vulnerable groups.
She added that the association would continue to advocate policies and programmes that protect women and the less privileged.
Also speaking ,Another Representative of the Foundation, reaffirmed their dedication to grassroots empowerment, saying the foundation remains committed to initiatives that deliver practical support to those in need.
The organisers called on other stakeholders, corporate bodies and philanthropists to support similar initiatives aimed at improving the lives of widows and vulnerable citizens across Ondo State.
Some of the Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the organisers and partners, describing the intervention as timely and impactful, especially during the festive season.
