The Oyo State Mobilization Agency for Socio-Economic Development (OYMASED) has appealed to residents, particularly those affected by the ongoing demolition along the Circular Road corridor, to cooperate with government efforts geared toward the state’s long-term development.
The appeal follows renewed protests against the 500-metre Circular Road right-of-way currently being enforced.
In a statement signed by its Director General, Dr. Morohunkola Thomas, the agency described the Circular Road as a critical infrastructure project designed to ease traffic congestion, expand economic opportunities, improve transportation and enhance the overall quality of life for residents across the state.
Dr. Thomas acknowledged the discomfort and losses experienced by affected residents, noting that the government “feels their pain,” but stressed that meaningful development often requires difficult decisions.
He urged protesters to “sheath their sword,” look beyond immediate inconvenience, and embrace the transformative benefits the project will bring. He added that the socio-economic gains of the Circular Road would soon become evident to all.
Dr. Thomas also called on residents to prioritize dialogue and avoid allowing political actors to infiltrate or exploit their grievances.
