The late Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, was laid to rest on Saturday at his Akure residence, even as the Coroner’s Court continues to probe the circumstances surrounding his sudden death.
The quiet and impromptu burial drew a large turnout from the university community. The Vice-Chancellor of UNIMED, Prof. Ebunoluwa Adejuyigbe, led a delegation of top management staff to the funeral, while the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, was also present.
Mourners filled the Registrar’s street, with vehicles lined along the road as colleagues, friends, and sympathizers gathered to pay their last respects. However, Prof. Adolphus Loto, former Acting Vice-Chancellor, was conspicuously absent. His testimony at the inquest earlier in the week had alleged that the late Registrar paraded forged academic certificates — a claim now central to the ongoing inquiry.
The burial took place just days after an autopsy was conducted at the instance of the Coroner’s Court, which is examining whether the death was natural, self-inflicted, or linked to foul play. The court has emphasized that its investigation will continue until the cause of death is fully established.
