The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has granted pardon to Yoruba nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
Oba Ogunwusi gave the assurance during Igboho’s visit to his palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The monarch described Igboho as a “brilliant and courageous son of Yorubaland” whose agitation, he said, was not for personal gain but for the collective good of the Yoruba people. He further pledged to intervene in resolving issues surrounding Igboho’s security watchlist and frozen bank accounts.
In separate remarks, the Attah of Ayede-Ekiti, Oba Abdulmumini Orisagbemi, and the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Rasheed Olabomi, commended Igboho’s show of humility. They expressed confidence in the Ooni’s capacity to address his challenges while affirming that Yoruba monarchs had forgiven him.
Earlier, Igboho had prostrated before the Ooni, apologizing for his past critical remarks against the monarch. He admitted that his words had been harsh, noting that he had learnt his lessons.
The agitator also appealed to the Ooni to use his influence to facilitate the removal of his name from the security watchlist and ensure the unfreezing of his bank accounts.
The event was attended by prominent Yoruba monarchs and traditional chiefs.
