Grief has gripped the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, following the suicide of a student in the Department of Dentistry who allegedly took his own life after the release of his examination results.

The incident was confirmed in a statement by the President of the Dentistry Students’ Association, Adebayo Idris, who disclosed that the tragedy occurred shortly after the results were made public.

“It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of our colleagues in the Faculty of Dentistry,” the statement read in part.

“We have received the painful news that he took his own life shortly after the release of his examination results.

This loss is not just the departure of a promising young mind, but a painful reminder of the silent battles many students face. As an association, we are devastated, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, classmates, and all who knew him.”

The association noted that the death would leave many in shock, struggling with unanswered questions and difficult emotions.

It urged students to support one another and seek professional help when necessary.
