The Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan has strongly denied recent allegations made by one Miss Odjegba, who falsely accused one of its priests of impregnating her, calling the claims “malicious lies.”
Odjegba had granted an interview to Agidigbo FM on May 2, 2025, alleging repeated sexual encounters with the unnamed priest. The story quickly gained traction, prompting outrage and confusion among the faithful.
However, in a formal statement issued by the Chancellor of the Archdiocese, Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Omolade, the church confirmed that Odjegba was never pregnant.
The confirmation came after medical tests conducted on May 9 during a meeting with Agidigbo FM’s management at the radio station’s designated medical facility.
The statement further revealed that Odjegba has a history of discredited allegations and ongoing mental health challenges. The Archdiocese also dismissed her purported evidence as fabricated and lacking credibility.
“Our internal investigation, supported by eyewitness testimonies and police records, established that the only contact between the woman and the priest was her request for financial assistance,” Fr. Omolade said.
The Archdiocese criticized Agidigbo FM for what it described as a gross breach of journalistic ethics. “The station ignored basic standards by broadcasting unverified and defamatory content,” the statement noted. “We will pursue legal redress to repair the harm done.”
Citing Exodus 20:16 — “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour” — the church urged the public to be cautious about sensationalist reports and to uphold truth and integrity in public discourse.
