Ogun State Government Seals Agro-Processing Company Over Pollution
Ogun State government has ordered the closure of another agro- processing company at Igbesa in Ado Odo Ota local government area of the state for polluting the ecosystem of the host community and damaging the environment.
Commissioner for Environment, Mr Ola Oresanya said the closure followed several complaints from the host Community and subsequent verification and warnings by the State Environmental Task Force.
Mr Oressnya said the Company was found guilty of industrial pollution through discharge of its untreated waste water into the community which had greatly affected the well-being of residents of the area
He therefore said that the company would remained shut until it restores the environment back to normal and be more responsible in their production processes and carry their host community along with their level of remediation.
The Commissioner appreciated the Igbesa Traditional Council for notifying the state government of the unethical environmental practices of the company urging other councils, communities, residents and public spirited individuals to join the state government in enthroning proper environmental governance statewide.
He warned other companies operating in the state that while the government continued to provide enabling environment for them to operate,it would not tolerate any carelessness in their production processes.
