In a decisive move to uphold traditional values and discipline within the Ibadan chieftaincy system, His Imperial Majesty Oba (Dr.) Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin I), the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has suspended two Mogajis and stripped them of their traditional beads.
The affected Mogajis are Kamorudeen Kolawole of the Kukula family, Oke-Ofa Baba Isale in Ibadan North East Local Government, and Samsudeen Bello of the Ekerin Ajengbe family, Isale Osi in Ibadan South West Local Government.
The suspension, which takes immediate effect, was announced during a meeting of the Olubadan Land Matters Committee held at the old Olubadan Palace in Oja Oba, Ibadan, on Thursday.
Speaking on behalf of the monarch, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, stated that the sanctions are indefinite and will remain in force until the suspended titleholders take corrective actions.
Your suspension order is indefinite until you retrace your steps and do the needful,” the Olubadan declared.
The monarch warned that the duo had repeatedly been cautioned against actions detrimental to the reputation of the Olubadan and Ibadanland, including land grabbing, trespassing, and the oppression of family and community members.
Effective immediately, the suspended Mogajis are barred from parading themselves as traditional titleholders. The Olubadan further called on law enforcement agencies to apprehend any individual defying this directive.
The monarch also criticized some Mogajis and Baales for ignoring official invitations from the Land Matters Committee, warning that continued insubordination would lead to the loss of traditional titles.
The meeting was attended by high-ranking chiefs and traditional officials, including Oba Abiodun Kola Daisi (Ashipa Olubadan), Oba Dauda Abiodun Azees (Ashipa Balogun), Oba Salaudeen Hamidu Ajibade (Ekerin Olubadan), Chief Isiaka Akinpelu (Special Adviser on Chieftaincy Matters), and several Mogajis serving on the Land Matters Committee.
