The quiet town of Ibokun, in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, was struck by tragedy this week when the body of a missing man, Mr. Kehinde Ijebu, was discovered floating in the Oyile River.
According to reports Mr. Ijebu had been declared missing by his family on Tuesday, prompting concern among relatives and neighbors. However, residents later feared the worst, suspecting that he might have taken his own life.
A resident of the community, Mr. Olawale Famuyatan, shared that Mr. Ijebu had shown signs of emotional distress in the days leading up to his disappearance. “His whereabouts were unknown from Tuesday evening until the following day,” Mr. Famuyatan said. “His relatives were worried, but his neighbors believed he might have gone off again, as he’d done before—until his body was found floating in the river on Wednesday.”
The disturbing discovery was made by passersby, who immediately alerted local residents.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Thursday, May 8th, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident. He noted that there were no signs of violence on the body, supporting the belief that Mr. Ijebu may have died by suicide.
The family approached us requesting to bury him immediately,” DSP Ojelabi stated. “We recommended an autopsy, but they objected. The body was subsequently released to them for burial. I cannot confirm where he was buried, but investigations are still ongoing.”
The community remains in shock as the police continue to look into the circumstances surrounding Mr. Ijebu’s death.
