Service of Songs: Oyo Police Command Honors Late DCP Akinade Adejobi

The Oyo State Police Command has paid tribute to the late Deputy Commissioner of Police, Akinade Adejobi, remembering him as a beacon of dedication, courage, and integrity.

DCP Adejobi passed away on April 5 following a brief illness, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire his colleagues. At a solemn Service of Songs held in his honour at the Command Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Adenola, praised the late officer’s unwavering commitment to duty.

“DCP Adejobi was a gallant and devoted officer who gave his all to the command, the Nigeria Police Force, and the nation,” CP Adenola said. “Even while battling illness, he remained actively engaged in efforts to reduce crime in Oyo State. His memory will continue to motivate us to strive for excellence.”

The commissioner added that Adejobi’s untimely passing was a great loss to the force and the country, as he still had many years of service ahead.

Also speaking at the event, retired CP Ayodele Sonubi, a former Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, urged officers to emulate Adejobi’s exemplary character and professionalism.

Retired CP Sunday Odunkoya, Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on security matters, described the late officer as “a seasoned professional and a godly man” whom he had known for over 15 years. “He always worked tirelessly to meet targets and was deeply committed to reducing crime in the state,” he said.

In a heartfelt tribute, Olayinka Joe-Fadile, Oyo State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), called Adejobi a “natural problem solver,” recalling how he handled difficult issues with calm and competence.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Princess Folasade Adeyemi expressed gratitude to the Oyo State Police Command for the honour. “My brother was a hero, and though his passing is painful, we have found peace in accepting it,” she said.
