A tragic accident on Wednesday afternoon claimed the lives of five people and left seven others injured along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near Car Park C in Mowe, Ogun State.
According to a statement by Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, the crash occurred at approximately 1:39 p.m. and involved a yellow Mazda bus (registration number LGB 465 XA) and an ash-colored truck with no visible number plate.
Twelve individuals were reportedly involved in the collision. Preliminary investigations by the FRSC suggest that excessive speed, brake failure, and loss of control on the part of the truck driver were the likely causes. The truck is said to have rammed into the bus as it was negotiating a turn near the park.
The injured victims were rushed to Famobis Hospital in Mowe for treatment, while the deceased have been taken to the Idera Morgue.
Akinwumi Fasakin, the FRSC Sector Commander in Ogun State, extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a swift recovery. He also reiterated the importance of adhering to road safety regulations.
We urge all motorists to drive with full concentration, observe speed limits according to their vehicle category, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy,” he said.
Mr. Fasakin further called on fleet operators to install speed-limiting devices, conduct regular mechanical inspections, and make road safety a top priority to prevent further loss of lives on the nation’s highways.
