Lady Narrowly Escapes Lynching by Commercial Sex Workers Over Mistaken Pregnancy
A 27-year-old lady narrowly escaped lynching on Sunday night following a brutal attack by a group of commercial sex workers in front of a popular nightclub located along the Awolowo axis of Bodija, Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital
According to eyewitness accounts, the young lady, who appeared to have a protruding stomach, was mistaken for a pregnant woman by the sex workers.
Tensions flared when she was seen entering the car of a man alleged to be a regular patron of the sex workers in the area. Believing she had lured away one of their frequent customers, the enraged women confronted her aggressively.
What began as verbal accusations quickly escalated into physical violence. In a fit of fury, the sex workers descended on the unsuspecting lady, beating her mercilessly. 
Chaos ensued as onlookers reportedly tried to intervene, but the mob’s anger seemed uncontrollable at the height of the incident.
Fortunately, passersby and security personnel stationed nearby managed to rescue the lady before the situation took a deadlier turn. It was only after the intervention that the truth of the matter came to light — the lady was not pregnant, as her appearance had falsely suggested.
Sources revealed that she had only been struggling to make ends meet and had no intentions of interfering with the sex workers’ business.
The incident has since sparked conversations about the dangers of mob justice and the need for better conflict resolution mechanisms, especially in high-tension areas like nightlife districts.
Many also expressed concerns over how quick assumptions can lead to violence, calling on law enforcement agencies to increase patrols in hotspots especially nightlife districts to prevent similar occurrences.
