Doyin Okupe Fought For Enthronement of Nigeria’s Democracy – Abiodun
The Ogun State governor, prince Dapo Abiodun, has described Dr. Okupe, as a national icon who fought for the enthronement of democracy in the country
Governor Abiodun made the remark on during a condolence visit to the family of the former presidential spokesperson and a strategic politician at iperu-remo in ikenne local government area of the state
The Governor noted that the deceased was incarcerated by the military as a result of his belief in democratic system, stating that he was an amiable man who did not get angry easily
According to him, late Dr. Okupe was known for his bold political stance and unfiltered opinions, which made him a respected figure in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Governor Abiodun acknowledged the significant role the late Dr Okupe played in his own journey to the government house emphasizing that he was a patriotic Nigerian and an illustrious son of Iperu, who contributed to the growth and development of the state and the country at large
As a trained medical doctor, the governor stated, that the deceased advocacy for the nation’s growth and development, earned him admiration and criticism throughout his life stressing that in a gesture of solidarity, President Bola Tinubu also expressed his condolences to the family and the people of Ogun State.
Responding on behalf of the family, the Alaregun of Iregun, Oba Abraham Ogunfowora thanked governor Dapo Abiodun for the visit, which he said would serve as a relief to the family and the entire people of iperu-remo
Dr. Okupe, died on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the age of 73
