UBEC, OYOSUBEB Train 1,850 Teachers on Inclusive Education
The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, OYOSUBEB, yesterday began a five-day school-based Teachers Professional Development Programme for One Thousand, and fifty (1,850) teachers in the State.
Speaking at Iseyin during a monitoring exercise of the training, holding across the 33 Local government Universal Basic Education Authorities, the Chairman, OYOSUBEB, Dr. Nureni Adeniran said the training was aimed at enhancing the capacity and qualification of educators across the state.
Dr Adeniran said the training reiterates the commitment of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration to education, adding that the Board remains unwavering, as evidenced by it’s continuous investment in teacher training and development.
Dr. Adeniran said the board training was in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission.
He said the Teacher Professional Development (TPD) includes education and multigrade pedagogies.
He explained that the teacher’s training was to build the capacity of basic education teachers to enable them to address the peculiar challenges of special children’s needs.
The purpose of this training is to close the gaps and ensure that inclusive education becomes an integral part of the school features in the Pacesetter state,” he said.
Adeniran also said that special attention is being paid to the new teachers, who were selected to be part of the training in the state.
He also pointed out that the board in the design and implementation of programmes has ensured it meets the educational needs of all children for a better future.
Dr. Adeniran therefore, urged the teachers to pay keen attention to the proceedings of the training, as their role is very crucial in what goes on in schools and how learning takes place, which is the primary purpose of schooling.
In another development, the board, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission, organized the finals of the Agricultural Education training programme for pupils in the state.
The event witnessed quiz and debate competition among the contesting schools.
Dr. Adeniran appreciated the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for its relentless efforts in advancing quality education in Nigeria.
Adeniran noted that the Agricultural Education Training and Promotion (AETP) initiative is built on seven strategic pillars, which include:
Promoting a Career-Centered Curriculum, Promoting Entrepreneurial Education/Experiential Learning, Career Guidance and Promotion, Leadership Education Teacher Competence and Quality Improvement, and; Scientific, Critical, and Reflective Thinking of Learners; Logistics, Performance, Supervision, Monitoring, and Evaluation.
In fact, this competition is not just about winning; it is about challenging our learners to think critically, analyze real-world agricultural issues, and develop solutions that can drive our nation forward”, he said.
The Chairman extended congratulations to the finalist schools.
Community Basic School, Idi Obi, Airport Road (Ona-Ara LGUBEA) won the quiz competition, while L.A. Basic School II, Awumoro (Oyo West LGUBEA) won the debate competition, and Nomadic Primary School, kunbi, Igbeti, Olorunsogo LGUBEA, emerged third.
He noted that the pupils’ journey to the final stage has been one of dedication, perseverance, and hard work.
Regardless of today’s results, you have all demonstrated remarkable knowledge and skill, and for that, you are already champions.”
